I felt prompted by the Holy Ghost to write about my feelings. I felt prompted to share my opinion on the church's recent decision regarding same-sex couples and their children in hopes to lighten the mood and settle the confusion.
Many are confused and wondering why the church has prohibited certain people from joining the church at the age of eight. Let's not forget who is the leader of this church. No, this wasn't President Monson's choice, this was our Heavenly Father's choice. Our father in heaven knows what is best and he knows how to direct the church into the correct direction. I personally believe that this was his way of testing which members will continue to have unwavering faith in him no matter how distraught we are. He is testing our testimony and crossing his fingers hoping that we will see the reasoning behind his decision.
I think many have forgotten about this same policy in regards to the children of polygamist families. There are rules that God has placed before us. They aren't there to exclude and disappoint others but rather to help them. Children of both polygamist and same sex couples are unable to receive the "baby blessing," because it could trigger many issues in their homes. However, they are able to attend church meetings and activities as well as receive priesthood blessings when they are ill or in need of counsel. The children in these circumstances will have the opportunity to be baptized at the legal age of 18 if that is their desire. From my understanding they will also have the opportunity to serve a mission as well if they disavow the practice of same-sex attraction/plural marriage. They need to recognize the sin in those practices.
Most importantly, members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints need to have faith that this was the right choice. We need to realize that God knows what is best for the church, the members, and even the children of same-sex families. We need to be reminded that the second coming is near and we need to prepare ourselves by holding onto our faith no matter what circumstance we might be in. I feel that so many are jumping the gun and quickly making assumptions because we are unable to see the big picture but we need to constantly remember that he does. He knows how this will benefit all individuals. We need to walk by faith, not by sight and have a prayer in our heart that the savior will help us to understand this issue.
I pray that whoever may be reading this will understand that your father in heaven loves you for who you are and wants you to understand his works. I hope that you will understand that he is testing your testimony and wants you to have strong faith even though we are blind and cannot completely see his vision. He knows what's best.
